Self-exclusion programmes
Self-exclusion blocks you from registered gambling sites for a set period - usually 6 months, 1 year, or 5 years. Once active, casinos cannot accept your deposits even if you try.
- UK: GamStop - covers all UK-licensed gambling sites
- Denmark: ROFUS
- Sweden: Spelpaus.se
- Germany: OASIS (mandatory cross-operator register)
- Netherlands: CRUKS
- Belgium: EPIS
- Spain: RGIAJ (Registro General de Interdicciones de Acceso al Juego)
Warning signs - when to worry
Look at the list below. If two or more apply to you - or to someone close to you - it's time to talk to one of the services above.
- You spend more than you can afford to lose
- You hide gambling from family or partners
- You chase losses with bigger bets, hoping to break even
- You borrow money to gamble, or to pay off gambling debts
- You feel restless or irritable when you try to cut down
- Gambling interferes with work, sleep or relationships
- You feel guilty or anxious after sessions but go back anyway
- You've thought about stealing or doing something you'd normally refuse, to fund gambling
Practical tools you can use today
Beyond formal self-exclusion, here are things you can do this week:
- Set deposit limits at every casino account. Most operators force you to choose one at sign-up. Use it. Don't raise it on impulse.
- Use a session timer. Many slots and casinos let you set a max session length. Hit the limit, log out.
- Block gambling sites at the device level. Apps like Gamban and BetBlocker work across phones, tablets and computers. Both are free.
- Card-level gambling blocks. Most UK banks now offer a one-tap block on gambling transactions: Monzo, Starling, Lloyds, Barclays, NatWest. Check your banking app under "Card Controls".
- Talk to someone. Stigma is one of the biggest blockers to getting help. A confidential helpline is a good first step - you don't have to commit to anything.
For friends and family
If you're worried about someone else's gambling, support exists for you too. GamCare (UK) and Gam-Anon offer family-focused services. The first conversation can be the hardest, but it's also the one that matters most.
Our position
We publish slot reviews and free demos. We do not encourage anyone to gamble beyond their means. If you've reached this page because you're worried about your own gambling - please use the helplines above. We'd rather you didn't play Le King at all than play it when you can't afford to lose.
